I'm sure he will, Oda won't just kill off someone as important as Hawkins. He still has to show us what he can really do and go all out. His tarot cards will play a bigger role in the future, no doubt about it.

Purely looking at narrative, I agree. But I have this interview in the back of my mind where Oda said he didn't intend for all the Novas to become important and he thought about half of them would've dropped out of the New World already.

Maybe Oda wanted to get his original plan back on track and'll start taking them out one after another in an insignificant manner. I hope not. Hawkins' philosophy of believing in fate and how he came to view the world like that has the potential of a really intriguing flashback. Let alone the crazy untapped potential of his power.
