It shows that Smoker was not fighting to win but merely to get Laws heart back.

Hence Vergos “So that was what this was all about?” Vergo realized Smoker never intended to fight to defeat Vergo, he was simply regaining Laws heart because if he fought Vergo, won, and Vergo killed law in a final ditch effort Smoker would be unable to face his men in dishonor.

People keep bringing up Vergo as strong but:

He fought a weakened version of Sanji who was already very beat up, yet Vergo was incapable of stopping Sanji from saving the marines

He fought a smoker who was just trying to distract him while he stole Laws heart to repay a debt

He never won an actual fight.
Not even say he won against Sanji because he Cracked his leg. I believe Sanji would won in a all win fight.

But he beated Smoker. The fight was Smoker and Law vs Vergo. He stated his haki to be superior than Smoker. This is more than enough.

You just headcannoned all those arguments about Smoker feeling bad if Law dies by Vergo.

No smoker says that outright that’s not headcanon but manga canon.

And who cares? sasaki has better haki than Franky, Black Maria better haki than Robin, Enel better haki the pre timeskip luffy, Kaido better haki than luffy, better haki doesn’t guarantee a win. That’s never been a thing.

Smoker is not a protagonist with plot armor. Kaido said the haki rules.

Now that you said that, i feel like Smoker is underrated

He’s heavily underrated. Straight up reread punk hazard smokers a monster in most the arc. Man straight up only lost to law because law had to sneak attack him through a rock.

The problem is people taking the smoker vs Vergo fight out of context like they don’t read the dialogue which literally shows Smoker letting himself get beat up so he can take laws heart back.

Yeah but thats pretty much expected, most of the powerscaling is much more about agendas than actual context analysis

Bartolomeo doesn’t have haki, he beat Bellamy. Kaido believes hakis the strongest. Blackbeard has like no haki feats but powerful devil fruits, is he going to be weaker than kaido?
Good points. Bartolomeu, WB and Teach DF are overpowered for sure.

And I think a logia type is a broken fruit as well. The problem wasn’t the power it was the style, Smoker was purposefully expanding his body to allow him to find laws heart. Smoker was then purposefully allowing himself to get beat up to distract Vergo of his main objective.

In An actual fight where smoker fought against him more like he fought against law earlier in the arc Smoker would’ve won that fight by a good margin too.

But plot was defending the villains this arc. It’s like luffy losing to monet

In a discussion about Smoker vs Vergo I got my eyes on very specific information that easily ends some debate people had lately in this Forum.

This page alone is enough to end the debate of Vergo > Smoker and Kairoseki not being indestructible.

I would also say that ends the debate about Zoro needing to cut Kairoseki as next step or the last step since Vergo did it easily with his Ryou against Smoker's own Ryou.
It should also end the debate about Ryou being such an advanced technique. It is nothing more than a different application of armament, simply using it externally of your body(aka weapons).

And if you need a bigger proof about the 2 first and main topics of this thread, here it is:

"Ah but Smoker only did that because he was after Law's heart"

And why he would do that if he wouldn't lose to Vergo? Oh yes, he would and he knew it. Vergo himself stated to have better haki and we know very well that haki rules One Piece.

Edit:

Since it seems I was wrong thinking Smoker's weapon was half built of Kairoseki I will drop this.

If Kairoseki were indestructible would people be able to change it shape into chains? Weaken it force so DF user are not useless and can work hard?
Smoker's jitte only has kairoseki at the tip.

I don't understand this line of thinking, why would you focus on getting the heart of Law and taking a beating if you can just beat the other guy and take it from his corpse? Any Pirates of the Caribbean fan would know what I am talking about, it is I think what Barbosa said to Jack on searching and taking things from dead corpses.

If Smoker was stronger than Vergo then why not just beat the guy and then take Law's heart from him instead of getting beat up trying to take Law's heart during battle.

Smoker was probably light years below Vergo :josad: But I hope he will regain his dignity at the war
