I never understood the hype

It's too formulaic

When I was in elementary school everyone in class used to read and like it.
I tried one or two books. Skipped a lot in between bc boring af.

Some people just make up some stuff and call it an animal.

Nostalgic feelings aside, some of the main series movies are really fucking bad.
Halfblood Prince completely butchered the best parts of the book, like the whole Voldemort backstory and the invasion on Hogwarts to focus on Ron's first girlfriend drama.
