Law wanted to defeat Kaido to go after the man who allowed Dressrosa to become a hellhole by funding and fueling Doflamingo. Kid helped Law get closure on years of personal trauma and regret. If it wasn't for Kid and Killer, I doubt Law, Luffy, and Zoro survive vs Kaido and Big Mom.

Law owes Kid a lot, seeing him pay it forward and acknowledge Kid as a real rival is cool.
