Its not about more "wholesome". Orihime had zero chemistry with Ichigo. Rukia had all that and more. Rukia is a much much better character

Same issues with Hinata and Naruto too. Although Sakura is the healer ironically. But Sakura actually had personality, major successes (outside of combat especially/other aspects and such) and chemistry with Naruto including a fake love confession lol.
Hinata felt so forced especially with The Last too.

NaruSaku fans even bombarded Kishi with death threats for screwing them over.
