A lot easier to start a story than finish it. The dénouement is the hardest part.

So many stories that started out great and fizzled out before the climax. In fantasy fiction George R.R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss were the biggest names, and they couldn't finish their stories. One Piece might have a fate similar to ASoIaF, though maybe not as bad.

There was no point to her narratively. She was just there to sell merch and waste time, that's it.

right now this is almost confirmed:
Yamato joined the crew, but she has some work to complete in wano.

anyway, I think that is because she didn't appear in the RED movie, even though it's a filler, it seems like Oda wants to make it look like it happens according to the manga timeline, so it's like why Yamato isn't in film RED? because she has something to do in wano & then she will join the crew in the next island
