it wasnt but that time spent allowed us to get to know her ,
how she came to meet oden ,
also included a flashback with the samurais that helped her get through a short stint in prison. The way I see it, we get to see just enough of the character to fall in love with them before they join.
I get the sentiment, if Oda actually intended for her to be an arc specific character at the end of the day then there was not much reason to flesh her out to the extent that he did.

But again contextually, a lot of her story was kept restricted to the arc specific cast and not the SH's, it really never felt personal and something which the the crew empathized over which I think has been a constant with every past member and especially Luffy.

Luffy looked pretty apathetic all the while she was sharing her plight and any interaction with the others was non-existent. It was only Momo (a Wano specific character) who seemed to care about her setting sail outside the country

Yamato should have said something like: "I will stay in Wano temporary to help protect/rebuild it, and travel around it like Oden, then explore the world after that"

Much better, doesn't feel like a lame excuse, something not even Oden's main trait. I guess he recruited the scabbards that way iirc during his time around Wano regions traveling, Oda is just dying to make a Yamato cover story next.

Call me biased but this was good trolling on Oda's part

The stuff with Yamato is just bad writing
Doesn’t have to be good trolling. But he was indeed trolling. Everything about Yamato is either a gag or something which would make her super liked by the audience

Oda already trolled 3/4 of the fanbase post Wano with some of his decisions so I’m not shocked he pulled this off.

He’s been doing it for years he’s just worse at it now

thats correct , she hardly had any interaction with the others on the ship but with momo and shinobu (characters that would remain in wano) , but I thought the moments with luffy were enough .
robin comes to mind when I think of a strawhat who had barely interacted with others in the ship before she joined.

Well at least we agree the way Oda wrote Yamato was just not good

Yeah, but Robin had the benefit of being introduced pretty early in the series and someone who seemed to be shrouded in mystery. Both of those things unfortunately don't go in Yamato's favor

It’s not like Oda even developed the dynamic between Yamato and Luffy either.

The fact he didn’t even try to form any connections with Yamato and any of the SHs shows she was never actually going to join the crew.

A scene of her asking to join means fuck all when the very next major scene of her is against Greenbull with the rest of the Scabbards, Momo and no Straw Hats

Oda created Yamato to test his fans on their basic media literacy and at least 70% of them failed
-Pull a character out of literal thin air halfway through the arc with no foreshadowing despite introducing every other character that was going to be semi-relevant in Wano within the first ~couple dozen chapters, or at the very least namedropping organizations like the Tobi Roppo even if all their members aren't shown onscreen
-This character has both a design and character biography ripped straight from a 13 year old's deviantart OC: "I'm a beautiful woman with gradient hair and gradient horns and I'm the main villain's daughter and I was friends with Ace and I already love Luffy before ever meeting him and I also know Luffy's secret dream that has never once been mentioned before and also I'm larping as the character Oda has been fellating as Jesus this entire arc and also I've had CoC since I was a baby and also I have a really cool mythical dog zoan with random ice powers"
-This character says "I'm joining" a dozen times but no work is actually put into writing them like a Strawhat, in fact every effort is taken to avoid them interacting with the crew in meaningful ways
-instead they spend 90% of their time growing a relationship with Momo
-if she's intended to have any sort of character arc at all then that means she will end up in a different place from where she started, otherwise she's going to be the worst written/most static Strawhat of all time

I'm not suprised she's not joining but I am surprised that Oda fumbled the last bit and failed to give her an on-screen arc at all. I think 1058 is not only do or die for Carrot fans but also Yamato fans, maybe the crew will get a flashback where we see the actual conversation with Yams.

You mean the scene that had a pretty important moment for Momo who literally said her to shoo away?

Yeah, but Robin had the benefit of being introduced pretty early in the series and someone who seemed to be shrouded in mystery. Both of those things unfortunately don't go in Yamato's favor
Mate, stop looking for patterns, Brook is living proof.

None of this would be a problem if Oda wasn't shoving some of these things down the readers throat. Personally, idc, not too invested in Yamato anyway, but it is clown writing.

It's funny to me

people are saying that only the haters are "seeing" the Hiyori thing as a genocide thing

yet i've gone to the most positive places in the community and people are still seeing and saying the same thing
