well the theory always was that mihawk would help shanks against the BB pirates but i dont think that'll happen, Zoro vs Mihawk has way too much significance for the story for oda to kill mihawk before zoro defeats him

Oda can always pull it, no one expected a yonko crew with Buggy as captain with Croco and Mihawk as commanders.
Though tbf I'm beginning to have doubts about this, I underestimated how ruthless Mihawk is. The main reasoning for SKM is how cringe a Mihawk vs Zoro fight would be, especially when they recall the circumstances in which Mihawk agreed to tutor him.
That said I thought Mihawk would have a soft spot for his student, thus putting a bad stain on their fight, but that might not be the case.

Exactly my problem with Zoro vs Mihawk. The moment Mihawk became his teacher that fight lost all meaning, hard to fit a scenatio for it to happen unless perhaps it happens after everything else is set and done, while the straw hats just sit back, relax and watch Zoro fight his "teacher".

True it's very linear. It's just like expecting the manga to end after SHs reach laughtale when in reality the WG was always the main goal.
Shiryu killing Mihawk in a well planned revenge plot and attaining even more greedy power is a far more interesting plotline.

this goes under the assumption that mihawk will hold back which we have no way of knowing until it happens
