[theory] The Story of the Greatest Swordsman

#1
Hi all, this is my first time making a theory here. It will be short, but please share your thoughts.

What if Shanks was the greatest swordsman and Mihawk was aspiring to get the title from him the whole time, that's why they fought countless times on equal footing as the story suggests. But then, when Shanks lost his arm, instantly Mihawk became the greatest swordsman cause Shanks lost his dominant arm. This would explain the following:

1- If Shanks and Mihawk were on equal footing, how come only Mihawk is considered the greatest swordsman??
2- Mihawk instantly lost his apetite to fight Shanks after the latter lost his arm cause he knows he will win? which is boring for Mihawk.

Thats all! hope you like it.

Thoughts?

That's what I'm been saying the whole time. Mihawk didn't become the World Strongest Swordsman by beating Shanks but by rather Shanks lost his arm and retired and gave the title to Mihawk. That's probably why Mihawk doesn't want to fight Shanks anymore. Oh and welcome to WG btw.:cheers:

Welcome to WG. Enjoy your time here.

Shanks' fan is always welcomed here.

It's still debatable who is stronger between Shanks and Mihawk. Both of them haven't shown their full power so i prefer to wait future chapters to decide.

Hello.

The only issue I have with the theory is that we were told in the Ace novel that Shanks got most of his fame from Mihawk. @Rivaille, can confirm for us whether it was from Ace novel.

Since that is the case, it makes no sense for Shanks who was less famous than Mihawk and actually got majority of his fame from Mihawk to be the wss.
The world strongst swordsman is a title that is know throughout the world, even people in East blue, the weakest sea knew about WSS and Mihawk.

Welcome here. No, Mihawk > Shanks. Mihawk is not that kind of character who would be okay with a fake-taken title.
thanks for the welcome.

I'm not saying it's a fake title, Shanks got considerably weaker (though still Yonko-strong of course) that Mihawk who was fighting him on almost the same-level can now beat him in a one on one swords fight. It's not a fake title when you think of it that way.

The problem is: would Mihawk be proud of a title that he got only because his rival got his arm severed?

Note that Zoro was very uncomfortable with the idea of surpassing Kuina only because she would have gotten weaker through time due to her gender.
Zoro wasn't ready to accept the idea to become stronger than Kuina only because she would have grown weaker than a man.

There is a clear parallel here:
Zoro = Mihawk
Kuina = Shanks
Surpass Kuina because she is a girl = Surpass Shanks only because he got crippled

The problem is that you think just because a person has a sword they want to become WSS. That's the flaw.
Some guys just like their weapon to be a sword and don't care for WSS title. They would rather go find One Piece or just fool around in NW.
