Boruto did to many things that were cash grabs and don't propel the story in a good way.
Boruto should have literally been the second coming of Minato. Be a version of today's Minato that has to rely on learning a ton of jutsu and combine to compensate for his lack of chakra in comparison to his dad. Lastly his ocular ability should have been the teinsegan. And domt have him affiliated with otsotski.
Keep the science ninja tech but remove its ability to absorbed chakra.
Give gai a cybernetic leg.
Actually show off kakashis new jutsus that he displayed in the kakashi retsuden novels.
Have sarada be the second coming of the copy cat ninja. Because her dad has both charkas of indra and asura to even obtain rinnegan then Sarada would be born with the ability to access the EMS without the need of obtaining eyes from another close uchiha
Don't have sasuke or naruto loss their powerups since this generation already have the ability to learn jutsus much faster than them and have access to powerful doujutsus or ninja tech already.
