Current Events Rate The Oden Flashback

Too tired to give a full breakdown, but it's a 7/10 for me.
Solid start, and good character building for the main players like Oden, Kin'emon, Orochi. However, some wonkey pacing, combined with under-utilized crucial characters, relationships, and poorly placed convenient story telling hurt its emotional weight.

Look, clearly we have a lot that's been left unsaid. This was ODEN'S flashback. It was done to highlight ODEN'S life, experiences, struggles, weaknesses and strengths. The minute bit of Roger we got was the tip of the iceberg. We need to know about the edd war and the god valley incident, that is some end game level shit we can't even comprehend yet. Luffy and the strawhats aren't at their prime, honestly if we saw 100 percent strength Roger 2 step oden now. It would make the strawhats progression look like nothing until they reach peak
5 for me.
I loved seeing the characters but that was it.
We didn't learn really anything that we didn't already know. It felt more like a montage of moments than an actual story. No scene was allowed to play out to be interesting it just felt like a series of boxes being checked by Oda. "Need to show this, can't forget this etc."
It's like the world Oda built is getting too big to tell the story at a pace that is actually engaging to the reader. Granted I still need to read it in volume form and that may change my opinion. But week to week was rough.
Hopefully the anime expands it and paces things out better.

I remember absolutely loathing this flashback. The problem was that so many events were crammed in together and because of it I couldn't care about any of the events happening. I remember being very happy when it was over and we got to see that epic penal with Luffy, Law and Kid.
I do think some of the final chapters of the flashback were decent but the Oden vs Kaido ''fight'' was an absolute disaster in my eyes.
