Controversial The freedom of companies is such a stupid defense

#1
It's their site, they can ban or block whoever they want
Is the same as saying well the mayor owns your town therefore he can jail you for whatever reason no matter how biased or unjustified the reason

Yea no
Youtube or whatever should not get a pass for blindly censoring people like blocking anime reviews for 1 second of footage
Because if like a mayor or whatever did this same thing then people would have no excuses

And it's a private company defense is beyond dumb
The poor million dollar company, How dare we attack it not like the owner of youtube and twiiter pre elon musk met up with governments officials

And yea, no public companies dont get total and utter freedom
If governments make it illegal for places discriminate with who is hired or not then same logic should apply to big tech ie no biased enforcement of rules but guess media companies can discriminate on who's allowed on their platform but normal stores cant

It's called corporate capitalism.
Give it 500-1000 years and we'll have another system. just be patient

Companies should have the freedom to moderate their platform. They are not discriminating. The content they block is not due a human features that cannot be changed/controlled (Race, Birth Location, Religion) which is protected in america more than other places surprisingly. From my point of view, many men with malice as their objective have used this crude argument.

Comparing people visitng a store to someone uploading 1 second of undesirable anime is delusional in this context.

Really hard to tell exactly what you’re saying here, but Twitter is virtually a public utility at this point, so I believe a degree of moderation or regulation is justified. Copyright laws are also pretty clear and haven’t changed much over the years, not anyone else’s fault if someone wants to post a song or video they didn’t make and they try to pass it off as their own or don’t credit the creators. Freedom of speech and representation has never meant freedom from consequences, etc. :luuh:

The example you used is dumb
Mayor doesn't own your town
This would be like complaining about someone asking you to take your shoes off if you wanna go into their house, if they don't wanna let you in if you refuse they have the right to do it.
Colliding with the government, stealing your information, using their power to shut down competition etc... you can complain about tho

difference is youtube is publicly available site for everyone to use
and my house is a entirely private living space where nobody other then my family lives with

The house is a domain not owned by huge corpo, it's owned by private citizens and that's why having private rules makes sense in that case cause it's not expected for everyone to follow unlike with youtube as by the nature of being a public platform

but dishonest argument is dishonest

o I believe a degree of moderation or regulation is justified.
yea in the case of doing illegal stuff like murder and theft
otherwise all should be fine and companies like nintendo should have no right to try to censor people for streaming smash brothers

Yea really stealing millions of dollars by having a 5 second clip of the decade old dbz anime
utterly delusional, if people want to post shit regarding media they purchased let them

If they bought something, they should have the right to do what they want with it
I can smash the disc of a anime against the wall but cant post a clip from it

I didn’t say I agreed with it, just that the laws are long codified and not enough people care about this to affect real change. YouTube is still a corporation and all corporations are inherently evil, but most of the time, DMCA violations are only reported by the copyright holder, so it’s not the platform so much as the advertisers who support it.

stupid analogy made from your first point

"It's their site, they can ban or block whoever they want
Is the same as saying well the mayor owns your town therefore he can jail you for whatever reason no matter how biased or unjustified the reason"

private ownership vs a public servant (mayor)

google the bolded terms and learn the difference

I've always hated the low IQ "muh private company" argument. We're not talking about Mom and Pop's Sandwich Shop putting up a pride flag or a sign for a political campaign—where if you object to such behavior, you can walk down the block and find a dozen other competitors offering similar products. We're talking about transnational corporations with about as much power as governments, but with far less accountability, taking near-sole ownership of some utility. We wouldn't accept an electric company shutting off power to your house over "misinformation" or "hate speech." We shouldn't accept PayPal shutting down service to customers over "misinformation" or "hate speech" either. Either accept regulation or accept market competition! That's what these smug authoritarians in San Francisco need to be taught

Some youtube commenter said this and thought it was a very good post, So im reposting it here

I think the overall sentiment is pretty well founded, your not just my local grocery store when your a multi million dollar company who goes on board meetings with the government

you really think, Some local small time private company would ever need to speak infront of the senate for their conduct?

you are comparing the constitutional limitation of the government (Bill of Rights) to what you think is unethical

you are comparing the constitutional limitation of the government (Bill of Rights) to what you think is unethical
it's not about ethics
it's about how these sites act and how they are treated, And how that is bad

they should not ban people on the basis of difference in opinion if they wanna be a platform
as if they ban what they dont like, That means everything on the site must be correctly what they like

and no they dont deserve the private to be treated, the same way as a 10 yr old running a lemonade stand
as the 10 yr old is a person, the company is a multi layered organization which spans across countries

but hardcore leftists defend companies cause currently alot of them, are promoting leftism
and right wingers do it cause you cant attack private companies, they are innocent

so basically you are mad that nazism isnt allowed on social media? gotcha

#20
That's a huge reach
I never even mentioned nazis and most of the people getting banned arent even nazis

at most, they are ether far right like alex jones or just somebody uploading somewhat lewd or copyrighted material
last 2 things are fair reasons for punishment

Alex Jones used disinformation to villify the parents of Sandy Hook victims.

If hes the type of guy you are defending, then I am on the side of the evil corps
