Guys in my opinion now luffy is almost always in NIKA mode so it doesn't make sense to say "he activated the Gear 5 against Lucci".

In recent chapters, it is clearly seen that in the panels luffy shows the silhouette of Nika while discussing with the other characters. (Cloud of steam, cartoonish expressions etc.)

AND PLEASE STOP comparing the strength of characters by saying for example "If that character challenged that other character who lost against that other character then he is more ....(stronger / faster / better uses that certain type of haki etc.) of the other character".


These are truly childish and stupid comments that make the fanbase a truly toxic environment.

In this chapter we finally talk about the story of the fruits and people focus on saying "That character is stronger than another character because (.......) <-- fill the space with the stupidest thing that you comes to mind

There is no way in hell, a non Top Tier character is able to fight and clash with Joy Boy. Not only that, the reaction from the crowd was another portrayal feat: Jinbei running, Sanji sweating, Vegapunk talking about the absurdness of power Devil Fruit users hold while we see Lucci and Luffy in an equal powerful clash.

Luffy in gear 5 was not equal to Kaido .
Even when luffy went gear 5 Kaido was countering his moves with ease and give him more hits .
Also what manga are you reading luffy uses his gears on fodder \ weaker characters all the time .
In fact that is the normal , luffy learn new gear and then spams vs anyone , luffy was going to go gear 5 vs hologram food lol.

You’re ignoring that Law and Kid don’t only have those two things, they also have bounties equal to Luffy and the other is evenly clashing with Luffy’s biggest rival. Those are portrayals “points” towards Law and Kid. If Luffy were to fight either of them it doesn’t matter how fast you think Luffy is they will be able to keep up with him because Oda plays loose with his scaling.

also re read what you said. PRE TS Luffy has the same raw skills as Lucci. Luffy has gotten what? 5 power ups since then plus actual growth? What has Lucci gotten? 1 power up? And he was able to clash with Luffy? it’s as simple as Oda decided to make Lucci stronger. There’s no rational reason as to why Lucci should be this strong. If this was any other shonen we would be laughing at the obvious power creep, but this is One Piece and we understand that it’s classic Oda

To be fair this might just be Oda toning down the toonforce in comparison to reveal vs Kaido in which I think it was greatly over done.

That's why alot of fans were worried that Luffy fights will going forward would lack tension. Regardless its a feat for our boy to casually ignore toonforce
