Xavi is the best passer of all time. No one controlled a game like he did.

I have Zidane > Xavi in terms of overall game and assisting, but Xavi's passing was unrivalled.
I can agree with that, no one passed the ball like Xavi.
However when it comes to technical ability Modric is far better. Xavi naturally never had to take the helm on his own as he had someone like Iniesta on his side, but Modric's ability to maintain defense and pressure and initiating counter attacks is unmatched.

Luka is more complete in that regard whereas Xavi mastered a single role on the pitch, his positioning was not as fluid.
It comes down to which style you prefer imo, I'm leaning Luka solely because he can run the midfield on his own.

Why we acting like Modric didnt have any World class players by his side at all, lol?
He played with Kroos in RM, with Isco, Casemiro all having world class seasons throughout his career.
In the NT, he had Rakitic & Brozovic and now Kovacic, all three of them arent jobbers either lol.

They are not jobbers but I'm not gonna compare any of these guys with one of the greats like Iniesta lol

Kroos is definitely up there, no two ways about it.
Isco & Casemiro had world class seasons in spurts, just not for an entire decade or so like the greats did.

Rakitic was undeniably a world class midfielder until a season or 2 ago.

Xavi had Iniesta with him for the most of his career but then again, Spain/Barca's midfield did perform at a higher level under systems which demand more out of the midfield as well :kayneshrug:

I'll give you Casemiro and Kroos, certainly. Two top players in their positions who made it look easy day in and day out.

But Isco was never great per se. He had great games, sure, but not great seasons.

And Kovačić suffers from that same syndrome.

Don't forget Busquets too, these 3 basically slept with each other lol
These players were all great at some point but again I'd never compare them to the likes of Iniesta

How come? Real Madrid snatched 5 UCL titles in 8 years, you can't go higher than that lol
The fact that Xavi plays with the same players under the exact same system actually takes away from his talent.
That's what I meant when I said Modric is more fluid. Xavi likely wouldn't perform the same under any other form of play.

Isco had one terrific season where he was picked even ahead of Bale, forcing Madrid to play a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond instead of the usual 4-3-3. His role as a 10 was absolutelt essential in winning that CL. 2015/16 or the season after that iirc.

But other that yeah i agree.

Thats what im saying. Its not like Modric solo carried a team. Kroos & Casemiro are both arguably up there.

Read what i posted.
"Spain/Barca performed higher in systems which demand more out of midfield"
Im talking about individuals/systems, not the entire team. Winning CLs is a team effort. The way Barca played under Pep, Tito objectively demanded more out of the midfield than the way Madrid played.

That's what I meant when I said Modric is more fluid. Xavi likely wouldn't perform the same under any other form of play.
Thats true. You can say Modric is more versatile and i wont disagree.

All these idiots that are shaming Van Gaal do not know anything about football.Van Gaal had the match in control but he did not have the referee in control.

What if the ball that leandro parades kicked at the dutch bench hit van gaal it could have been murder. Fuck argentina
