Character Discussion Luffy sucks as a main character btw

Sorry I triggered the Narutard. Talk-no-jutsu when repititive like not even different everyone basically was the same path of 'lets be sad and overcome our pasts' together. Just got boring. At least when Luffy makes allies it's always different circumstances and like I said, Oda seems to withhold the backstories for the other characters where Luffy just helps because he wants to help the present not the past of what you can't change.
You have to take into account that Naruto is the world of ninjas/war/survival. One piece is the world of seeking your dream and becoming wealthy. Naruto was brought in a fucked up world to survive and for that he needed the people. Luffy was relatively spoiled told he could do anything by his grandfather and seeked his dreams.

Calling Mihawk and Shanks characters while dissing Luffy for being a bad one is either great satire or peak stupidity

M and S maybe have a better design and look cool, but that isn't a character.

Zoro (Pre TS) had it. Law has it for the most part. Even Blackbeard to some extent.
Pre timeskip Zoro who has various emotions and expressions > Post timeskip Zoro indeed.

Oh no. Compared to Luffy, Naruto's, Ichigo's or even Deku's value are scares. What I mean by deep value, is non conventional values, creative one. The way of example Luffy interact with other characters (like the way he interact with characters like Momo, or Vivi or Nami or Usopp, is completely different that anything you can see in regular shonen or even stories in general.
Lol, what's so different about it?

Changing doesn't make you a good character. A good character is one which whom the spectator can deeply empathise with. Empathy makes great storytelling and Luffy is one of the best vessel for empathy.
This tbh.

My teacher used to say that well written character isn't about whether we like their trait/personality/story or not, it's about how much the author put effort into making a character be a real person.

Simply giving someone a lot of details about all aspects of their life, and make them connect, coherent, and complete, is already making them a well written OP character. This is why Sanji is the most well written character (beside MC for obvious reasons).

It's not really that easy. Yes, we can make a very loved character by the way we make them likeable traits/personalities/stories but those are only the surface of a character characterization.

Sometimes we need to create an actual well written evil character. With character traits we actually despise.

That's why we must look under the surface. Therefore the key to a good written character is their storytelling. We need to make the spectator empathize with the character to the maximum. To make the audiance understand the character's choices. Only then you will have an amazing character.

But yeah, I agree on Sanji, it's one of the most interestingly written character in One Piece.

One piece has a LOT of interesting characters but sadly luffy isn't one of them, his personality haven't changed ever since the First chapter and i feel like he is still the same dumb character despite 1000+ chapters have passed.

There is no surprise that law, zoro, mihawk, Blackbeard and shanks are so popular, when you compare these aforementioned characters with luffy you quickly realize how boring he us.

One piece succeeded despite luffy, not because of him.

Like Goku, Luffy is what you call a Positive Flat Character: a positive flat character changes the world around them for the better, and is rarely changed by the world itself say they're usually the embodiment of all positive themes of their respective series.

These designs are two dimensional and simplistic by design so expecting big changes with them is pretty foolhardy.

I’d be scared if Luffy had the same personality of a character like Boruto for example.

He’s not like many of the manga characters you see, so I’d rather have Luffy just the way he is. I’d appreciate it if Oda made him a bit smarter though. I get irritated with him sometimes. Sanji can be a real pain when he’s around girls. :josad:

A lot of main characters are kind of dumb for some reason? DBS really hit Goku in the head.

Of course a series can’t do well with just one character. These characters are often times ones that people can relate to or find cool. If you only had the main character and nobody else then the story would quickly run out of stamina.

You can’t say the series succeeded despite of Luffy. This is just subjective thinking.

He is decent in pre skip and meh in post skip
Yes pre time skip is solid

But post time skip is a garbage
Wano specialy
In alabasta arc he learn not to put his crew in danger and even he bowed to local villager to cure nami illness because vivi quoted "are you really a captain on this ship" and in water seven galley la company said to him "hey how dare you to call yourseld a captain" when they know going merry cant be fixed
And thats a good story, he is a good person but still has a flaw

And after timeskip
Damn he become so naive !!
Put his crew to fight two yonko all at once
He learn nothing, the character development for a decades just gone, he acted like a god nowdays
No matter what he do, luffy doesnt face any consequence, What a downgrade
If not by stupid plot armor "nika" than luffy has been die in wano, its really terrible
