I have a theory on Df's awakening. It goes hand in hand with haki. Rayleigh and the old man from Wano (I know his name but don't want to acknowledge this fucker) said that haki blossom in extreme fights.
So I think it's the same with DF, you have to go near death, through extreme fights, conditions, while using your DF to its best to awaken your DF.
And we know that Luffy actually died against Kaido, Law had awakening after his fight against Doffy where he pushed his stamina at max and also almost died (blood loss, multiple bullets and attacks, arm lost, etc...). It seems like Kidd went close to death against Kaido or maybe against Shanks when he lost his arm.
Lucci stayed unconscious after his fight against Luffy and was close to a coma imo, it's one of the few times where Luffy really wanted to hurt his opponent.
Maybe it happened to Doffy and Katakuri as well.
As for Kaido, seems like he was too strong to be pushed near a state of death to awaken it. And Big Meme was awaken imo.

emperors are just nonsense its all about luffy vs WG the yonko title was just to hype but the real story is about world peace and so on yonkos are prob just for filler his orginal story is about peacmakers thats what luffy is he restores peace he isnt a pirate so dont expect anything from pirates all power is in the WG

I won't say it was a nerf. Or that they had to have it. I mean, if Kaido had it or not, his power will be the same. Oda is not going to make him stronger since he already is damn strong, he mostly would had made him weaker, so he could be as strong as he was with awakening.

Besides, I don't think Kaido doesn't have it. I mean, we don't know who does and who don't, Jailer beast don't look like Luffy or Lucci.

If Oda says it is awaken, then it is and nothing will change. You just want a confirmation. That's all.

Rob Lucci needed a new power up so a battle with Luffy was justified, as we know that his normal hybrid form must had been fodder for Luffy

Maybe awakening is purely skill-based and Yonko rely on pure strength too much. I dunno, just an idea.

That is a great theory, you need to master your DF, each time taking more power from it, until you awaken it or not.
