Why you hate Murica, greatest country of all time?😭😭😭
This song is unironically good.

I do genuinely love America. I liKe the idea (which is pretty much a myth) that America is a melting pot of different cultures where the only requirement to be "American" is to immigrate. Doesn't change the fact that we have a crumbling infrastructure while being the richest country in the history of the world BY FAR. No universal healthcare, no paid time off, highest prescription drug prices in the world, you get the point.

There is a magic melting pot where any girl or man can step in –Czech or Greek or Scot– step out American

Beginning of the poem sounds great right πŸ˜πŸ˜‚
Well, it's supposed to be a place where we leave our ethnic background behind and live together in harmony despite our differences (Which looks good on paper but we all know it hasn't worked out great) Either way, I like that America was supposedly founded upon an idea rather than an ethnic group.

Best part about the utopian fantasy of the happy immigrant society is that it all breaks down like a house of cards the very moment you remember that the whole nation was founded on genocide and ethnic cleansing

Aren't all countries "founded" this way ? Europe had so many different cultures and languages before the thrive of nation-states. Crusades were executed within kingdoms and made disappear various cultures. I could go on all over Europe but let's just take this example : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albigensian_Crusade

Don't forget about the pre-Indoeuropeans whose languages are almost entirely extinct except for Basque.

Yes humans are cruel bastards
