Okay, so even if Luffy did retreat, Lucci is still getting wrecked in other ways. Whether it’s by Vegapunk regaining control of the Seraphims or Stussy turning on him.
This isn’t to say that Luffy or Lucci are weak either, but I’d still say that Luffy would win against Lucci if Oda made it into a full-out brawl. Lucci isn’t stronger than Luffy, he’s just able to endure Luffy’s attacks for some time.

So basically, the summary of Nika vs Lucci fight:
- Neither of them were going all out
- It was Luffy who retreated
- It was Luffy who lets his ally Sentomaru got injured
- It was Luffy who left the injured comrade behind
- The Seraphims ended up changing sides during the fight and Luffy could do nothing about it
- Luffy reverted to sitting duck / old man form post fight, while Lucci was smiling and not acknowledging Luffy as a Yonko.
"But Gear 5 would have one shotted Lucci!!"
"Post Wano Luffy would bellamy-ed Lucci!!"
All these things never happened. Luffy didn't even gain upper hand if you look at it with different perspective.
