I think it's about matching the overall vibe of your powers.
Akainu is destructive and will stop at nothing even when the odds are far against him.
And he has one of the most destructive fruits, so if he awakened it makes sense.
Kizaru is bright but in the sense that he's smart, we know he read books as a child and despite his calm and composed manner he seems intelligent, more so than the other Admirals.
So he might be awakened and I imagine that his and Fujitora's awakenings can cause stuff like Enies Lobby ( always day and is suspended in the sky ).

I really hope Oda has Luffy finally defeat an Admiral, and differentiate himself from the rest of Supernovas.
Same thing happened with Dressrosa. Law/Luffy got equal bounties in Dressrosa, but Oda used WCI and Katakuri to make him an "Emperor". It was WCI that made Luffy stand out from the rest of Supernovas, and it's why he was declared a Yonko and not Law/Kid.
