Let’s see how this ages. My vote is the Stella Vegapunk. And it’s not even so much that he’s a “traitor,” it’s that he’s simply using the satellites as expendable tools and manipulating the situation for his survival.
- We know that he’s a very selfish character, and doesn’t hesitate to put others in danger to save his skin. E.g. he knew Sentomaru & Stussy would lose their standing in the WG and be in danger, but still ordered both to stick their necks out.
- He’s greedy and ambitious as well. He turned Dragon down effectively to get paid by the WG, and rationalized away any moral misgivings. He also dismisses Jinbe’s concerns about how humanity would react to being a part of a single hive mind.
- The cover has him rubbing shoulders with the Gorosei. Never a good look.
- Stussy has been his inside woman for years. He already knew CP0 was coming for him and would’ve taken measures to prepare. I will take it a step further. Lesser cipher pol (5 and 7) agents also tried to attack him earlier, and were eliminated. Through Stussy, he would have known about them attacking ahead of time as well.
- We already know he can jump, fly and much more. As the most superior of the 3, he most likely can do everything that Judge and Queen can, including going invisible.
- The entire episode with Bonney was a little too on the nose. She just happened to find exactly where VP was storing his memories. It was all too convenient a method for getting her off his back, distracted and occupied.
- Those memories start out sketchily enough- VP goading Kuma into participating in an experiment for VP’s benefit.
- There are lots of complaints about VP being short-sighted for building the seraphim in a way where they could be used against him. I doubt this is entirely the case. He either has a fail safe, or is several steps ahead of the WG. Shaka already knows exactly what’s in store, that he is going to die for the sake of the Stella.
If you’ve got a naval admiral, top ranked government agents and killer robots coming for you, what type of force could have a reasonable shot of evening the score? That of a yonkou. The straw hats are useful idiots that he has no connection with. He has sympathy for Robin, but we’ve already seen him treat those closest to him as sacrificial. He’s likely not even outright evil, just continuing to do whatever it takes for him to survive and further his agenda. If the straw hats win, he can use them to aid his escape. If they lose, he can use them to buy time to get away anyways. And someone with his skill and knowledge is always going to have some group willing to protect him.
