also Teach is a year older than Shanks (40) and yet he still counts as part of the New Gen (Worst Gen)
Is it possible to separate new gen from worst gen?
New gen; Shanks, Croc, Moria, Mingo, Mihawk etc. Basically, all those pirates shown on Roger's execution.
Then the worst gen; supernovas.

People took the word generation and ran with the textbook definition, but Oda does not mean "all people within a certain age bracket", Oda uses it to refer to infamous pirates whom all raised to fame during the same period, regardless of when they were born. That's why BB is in the same generation with Luffy, despite the two decades gap between their ages. Because both BB and Luffy became known to the WG at the same time, wrecking shit during the same period.
Same with Buggy, Mihawk, Shanks, They're older than the MC. Have been known for a while, sure. But they've been stagnant. Only now are they starting to make moves for the End Game, and therefore for destabilizing the world as a whole. A Nobody-turned-Shichibukai-turned-Yonko, a Shichibukai-turned-Marinehunter and a Yonko. They are from different walks of life and levels of fame. But they will all fall into the same generation as Luffy because they will all fight on the same side against the evil represented by Imu to bring together the New Age.

Kid isn't beating Shanks because he's not important enough. The best Kid and Law can hope for is soloing an Admiral in the final arc and becoming their generation's Shiki as in third place to Luffy and Blackbeard, and even then, chances are the world recognizes Buggy as the third-place pirate regardless if Kid and Law are that in actuality.

Luffy has two equals in the road to PK: Law and Kidd.
They're each taking on Luffy's ultimate antagonist for the PK and Luffy's mentor.
Luffy's ultimate antagonist, in order to become an absolute monster ansdgive Luffy the fight of his life, the ONLY fight capable of granting the PK status, will need to also kill the mentor.
The antagonist will already be one step above Luffy by defeating Luffy's equal (Law).
But he will only be above Luffy, forcing the underdog position Oda so loves and which all good combat storylines thrive on, by showing that he can also trash someone else already above Luffy. How do you show properly that the mentor is above Luffy? By having him defeat another Luffy equal: Kidd.
It creates a pecking order: BB>Shanks>Kidd/Law/Luffy. A pecking order Luffy will triumph over, cementing himself as the one and only PK.
Im not saying Law or Kidd need to die. Oda would never do that. But their cockiness needs to be crushed once more, as when they thought life in the New World was easy then they met Kaido.
But BB and Shanks, narratively, since you wanted to bring narrative theory in the discourse, well, BB and Shanks can only win. For BB to later kill an already defeated Shanks will not deliver the full dramatic blow. And for Kidd to also rise to the Yonko title on his own, while Luffy needed help and while Law gets defeated by BB, also creates a narrative imbalance with no solution to the Raftel narrative.
Luffy, BB, and Shanks are the only three actors that will fight for the PK.
The rest are actors necessary for the postPK End War against Imu.

with how much oda like to hype shanks and his role in story and mysteries around him him losing to kid make no sense
even if it was just shanks and his crew kid would have close to 0% chance add giants and his allies its nor even a fair fight
