Of course not, you’re never obligated to talk to anybody around you. Working in the same building doesn’t mean you automatically have anything in common with other employees, and a lot of people are fundamentally annoying or unpleasant to be around. That being said, I’ve made some lifelong friendships with coworkers that continued well past the time we worked together, so there are definitely benefits to forcible socialization

I don't have that problem. I'm the last guy who will approach someone by himself. So I either do shit alone or people approach me themselves and it happens a lot and it pisses me off. I don't think I have an interesting personality enough for people to talk to me.

I'm totally an introvert. If there was a cafeteria in my high school I would be that one guy who sits in the furthest corner and prays no one comes up to me cause I don't like being around people.

Magically classmates keep popping up, oh meet my friend this that and etc...

The same goes for work. At first, I didn't talk to anyone, but now I would probably tell you a full FBI report about everyone.

You don't HAVE to, but if they come up to you and talk to you, you and just greet them and talk to them for a little bit and if you don't want to try to make an excuse to get out.

Totally me all my life only I just recently learned to approach others just to finally get close enough to someone to experience an actual heartbreak and now I have zero desire to speak with anyone.

So glad I grew up wrapped in hate but spoiled by everyone, I now see it was my natural protection from reality. I devote my life to OP now

You are not obliged of course yet it is how a human should usually behave, if you are not in a pit of hell of course. It is like if you don't go to the toilet but go look for a flower pot in your office when nature calls you. Nobody will arrest you (maybe not) but for sure you will look weird as hell.
