We know with strong enough haki one can overwhelm someone else's haki or devil fruit but what if shanks can do something 1 step above

What if shanks can staight up turn off someone's ability to even use their haki and/or devil fruit. Having stronger haki then someone is obviously already a good advantage but if they cant even use their haki or fruit it widens the gap even more

Tho not really canon it was said that shanks was able to stop others from using their observation haki. If that ends up actually happening in the manga it might not be impossible for him to do the same with others armament and conquerors haki


If shanks can just stop someone from using haki while blackbeard can stop someone from using their devil fruit powers it could be a cool parallel between the two


If he's able to stop someone from using both he'd be even more powerful. Also if thats the case it might explain how shanks, roger, and maybe garp are able to compare to characters like whitebeard, sengoku, and the other emperors and admiral. That's assuming they're able to do the same
Back when roger fought whitebeard for straight up 3 days in a row the island was seemingly fine more or less. Possibly because roger was capable of restricting newgates powers

But as soon as whitebeard got angry right after they fought he was able to change the whole terrain around the island

So maybe because of rogers haki powers he was able to fight whitebeard on equal terms. Roger still being the strongest non devil fruit user able to beat anyone devil fruit or not
Whitebeard still being overall still considered the world stronger man because of his devil fruit on top of being able to compete with roger without it. Making both roger = newgate and newgate = the world's strongest man true

Thinking about it again what if blackbeard is grabbing fruits that give you similar abilities to advanced forms of haki like shanks

So basically
  • Blackbeard has the power to turn off others use of devil fruits through his darkness fruit
    • Maybe shanks can do the same with his haki without all the other abilities specific to the darkness fruit
  • With advanced enough armament we know its possible to bypass the outer skin and hurt them from the inside out. An ability shanks like luffy and ray most likely has
    • What if blackbeard got the quake fruit for that purpose. So he doesn't have to actually train his haki but can do the same with the fruit but on a larger scale
  • If shanks does end up having an ability to cancel out someone else's observation haki maybe blackbeard beards last fruit will somehow give him a similar ability. Possibly why blackbeard felt he wasn't ready yet to fight shanks

Then Boa's fruit could be compared to CoC blast to faint people, but with Boa's fruit he makes them stone. Almost the same.

Congratulations for being a man of culture.

But still... Oda is not potraying Shanks as the ultimate warrior his fans pretend he is. He was too afraid of competing with Kaido and Big Mom for One Piece. He asking everybody help only to fight Kid. Now it is more than clear that he used to be the weakest Yonko pre-timeskip and only stronger than Teach during post-timeskip(now Teach and Buggy).

So no he doesn't have anything special or that makes him hugely above others.

I always said and will say again Luffy > Shanks.

I've thought this weeks ago too

Shanks and Roger have the 3rd stage of CoC which affects CoO & CoA , also allows someone to create powerful blasts

CoC coating is 2nd stage like Barrier/flow is for CoA

  • CoO : sensing people's presence /attacks---> Sensing Aura/feelings --> Future sight
  • CoA : Coating yourself & weapons with armour --> barrier /flow --> internal destruction
  • CoC : Affecting people and area around ---> coating your attacks with CoC ---> Affecting HAKI

It might be to some extent similar to what Zoro did to Monet, freezing her in fear or awe. Haki freeze.

Though this stopping from using abilities/haki thing is op,.. it shouldn't be applicable to equally strong opponents like WB. I don't know

The only thing special about shanks is that he is know as the "observation killer". Shanks is by far the weakest of the original yonkos he makes up for it with the crew he has with him who were also big names even before joining shanks's crew. Unlike the other three yonkos there is no gap between him and his crew which is why they are the most balance crew compare to the rest of the other yonko crews.

Shanks doesn't need haki that tier above everyone else to compete with other emperor. Having acoc that able to split the sky is already enough. It is minimum for truly top tier. Even Oden and kaido 20 years ago don't have this. Both might has acoc at the time but not on sky split tier. So I put Oden,kaido 20 years ago,Yamato,Zoro and Luffy acoc pre-sky split on same tier.

But as soon as whitebeard got angry right after they fought he was able to change the whole terrain around the island

So maybe because of rogers haki powers he was able to fight whitebeard on equal terms. Roger still being the strongest non devil fruit user able to beat anyone devil fruit or not
Whitebeard still being overall still considered the world stronger man because of his devil fruit on top of being able to compete with roger without it. Making both roger = newgate and newgate = the world's strongest man true

I think Shanks has special Conqueror with a few function:

- block the activation of Devil Fruits or special technique (inhibit haki too, to some extent?)

- create flying weapons made of haki (imagine Gilgamesh' Gate of Babylon, but the weapons are giant in size, just a few but purely made from haki)
