Celebration of the Golden Witch
The year is, once again, 1986. The Ushiromiya family arrived on Rokkenjima island on the 4th October, for their annual family conference. For the first time in 6 years, Battler had returned to the family. After initial pleasantries, the discussions around inheritance were as heated as ever, while the cousins, the youngest ones there, played in their room together.
After dinner, they found a letter in Maria’s handbag. It was purportedly sent from the Witch Beatrice, whom the family head had been obsessed with for decades. It challenged the family - solve the riddle of my epitaph, as once midnight strikes, I will reclaim what is rightfully mine.
Some tried to continue the earlier discussions, but after the events of dinner, most of them wanted to lie down and get ready to leave tomorrow. Unfortunately for them, a typhoon had come in, and was unlikely to leave them by tomorrow. This meant they would be stuck on this island of Rokkenjima for 2 days at the least - the 4th and the 5th of October.
Strangely, the seagulls did not cry.
