"I'd like to continue my adventures."

"But if we ever see each other again... will you call me your shipmate?"

Vivi wanted to join the crew, but her commitment to Alabasta prevented it.

Now that she's on the run from the WG, she can't return to Alabasta, anyway.

So, now it's time to her to join the crew.
Ship mate is a bad translation. The word used here was nakama. There is no implication that she will join the crew or ride on their ship. Nakama is sometimes translated to ship mate because Luffy uses that word almost exclusively to refer to his crew, but it's more akin to the word friend. Furthermore, Vivi is not free of her obligation to Alabasta. It's not like the country has been destroyed. Her goal is almost certainly to find a way to return to Alabasta as queen, not to give up and join a pirate crew. Nothing that happened since Alabasta changed the meaning of this scene.

You are digging WAY too much into semantics to ignore the actual writing in the Manga. To begin with, Vivi has already made it clear she wants to sail with the Straw Hats. Next, Vivi isn't free from Alabasta, BUT, the WG is a threat to Alabasta (Sabo didn't kill Cobra, the WG did, let's be honest, and Imu had Vivi's poster). Vivi needs to ally with people who can protect Alabasta from the WG.

Next, okay, say you're right, and Vivi was using the word Nakama to mean friend, not shipmate. How does that make sense within the context of the scene, where Vivi is addressing the crew as they leave Alabasta?

Why in the hell would Vivi ask the Straw Hats if she'd be their friend still? Of course she would be. The Straw Hats wouldn't meet Vivi a few years later and act like they're not friends anymore. You and many others have openly admitted that she's an ally/friend of the Straw Hats, why would she ask if she would still be their friend?

The scene literally only makes sense if Vivi is asking if she'll still be apart of the crew.

The ENTIRE POINT OF THE SCENE with the X's on their arms, is to tell Vivi that she will always be a Straw Hat.

This thread is actually pointless if you guys can't admit Vivi already got a clear invite. Oda letting her join is one thing, but, Vivi is a Straw Hat.

Whatever you guys type on the internet won't erase the X on Luffy's arm.

It's not semantics. Nakama is VERY different from shipmate. This scene is very clearly Vivi asking if she's still one of them even if she's staying behind. The translation of ship mate changes the meaning to involve actually literally sailing on the ship. That is not at all what nakama means.

As far as the WG, you explained perfectly why she won't join the crew. Her only shared goal with the crew is taking down the WG in order to return home. She'll probably be a part of the final war with them, but she won't join the crew since she's going straight back to Alabasta afterwards.

Obviously Vivi would be accepted in the crew if she asked to join, but the point is that she won't because it's completely contrary to her final goal of ruling Alabasta, and because that's simply not where the story is heading with her character.

I never said Vivi isn't one of them. It's because she's still one of them that this scene does not imply a future joining. If you think she has to sail with them to laugh tale to fulfill this promise, you're the one trying to erase the X on Luffy's arm.
