No he didn't do anything wrong with Estas Kidd. Kidd was at his level against Shanks, and yes he had an amazing journey and was extremely lucky for someone who can barely use haki.

Also in Shabandy he never rebelled against celestial dragons, he just happened to be there when the Straw hats went against the CD clowns.

As for Shanks, the chapter wasn't to hype him up, he did nothing that wasn't to be expected against a character of Kidd's level.
