Controversial Why did Shanks interfere?

If Blackbeard was biggest threat for Shanks. Why did he even interfere at Marineford? The man was at the centre of the World Government. He should have led them deal with BB. While the Admirals could have finished off WBP, Sengoku and Garp would have wrecked the BBP. Even the Warlords were at present.

Will there ever be a better opportunity than that? I don’t think so.

With the recent chapters, Oda really made Marineford arc a pain in the ass to justify the outcome. It could have ended way different.

I always assumed that BB didn't want to go through a tough fight, rather than being weaker than Akainu. Same reason he retreated from Rayleigh

He didnt want necessary bloodbath where he's not sure he'd win against BB without Marine and Admirals jumping on him in the process, and furthermore he need Luffy to become his ultimate pawn, after unlocking G5, to proceed with his plan. Not before.

Shanks might have a more hidden agenda based on his connections, but in general his top priority is waiting for Luffy and maintaining the power balance. Not the only time he prioritized that over Blackbeard. If he wanted BB gone asap, he could've teamed up with the WB remnants for that, but he didn't.
