People like edgy serious characters, simple as that. But edgy isnt the issue, its that zoro is one of the worst written long running manga edy characters.
Almost 1100 chapters and zoros depth never reached the likes of Vegeta, Sasuke, Killua, Scar/Mustang, Hiei. Hell, even bakugo has more to offer.
In the past 500 chaptera WTF has zoro done thats deeply thematic, poetic, contemplative, philosophical, any fucking thing other than "i will get stronger to beat my opponent and look cool while doing it".

Because Japanese audiences in general, have a thing for swordsmen as their history revolves around swordsmanship and traditional sword practices. Zoro happens to be fits those requirements so they tend to be more related to him.

Following One Piece for 20+ years, when I was a teen I liked Zoro, then growing up I realised that he's the most stereotypical cool guy, even Luffy is less stereotypical then him funnily enough.
Most people (aka people with brain) follow the story for the Lore and the One Piece.
Children follow it for colored funny adventures.
Naruto and Bleach refugees and mentally slow people(edgelords) follow it for the reason you wrote.

Never read or watched Naruto and as for Bleach im not a big fan, just watched the anime to kill some time.
On the contrary when it comes to OP i have invest more than 22 years in this manga and while the lore and the story is "good" Oda & his editors should make a monument for Zoro,Shanks and Mihawk because if not for these 3 the majority of fans would have drop the series in the first 2-3 years.

Cool design cool fighting style disciplined loyal hardworking and often given second most prominence. There's a lot to like and oda puts time into making people like zoro. Part of liking Sanji also comes with having to like or at least tolerate more prominent character flaws. It's just a lot easier to like Zoro than Sanji.

Exactly. With wano being so long, characters like Robin, Franky, Chopper, Brook had absolutely nothing going on for their character.
Some got crumbs. Nami had het protect tama and tell ulti off moment, which isnt that special. Ussop had his lecture about living, that he gave the retainers.
