His dynamic with Thorfinn is the only redeeming quality he has.
But he works better as a foil for Thorfinn, than a character on his own.

Canute's purpose in the story is to be Thorfin's foil

Alone, he's nothing but a bitch who thinks he can commits whatever atrocities he wants in the name of "his own paradise on Earth".

He doesn't just do them willingly, he actively acknowledges what he's doing is evil and we see him struggle with it.

Which leads back to his relationship with Thorfin, he's genuinely rooting for Thorfin and helps him when he can after chapter 100

Military might perpetuates a cycle of atrocities that we often try to justify because we are all too afraid to be on the losing side.


Farmland arc is great, except for the retarded glorification of slavery. It almost looks "redeemable if done properly with a nice owner".

I've read this arc around 6-7 times
Farmland arc and Searching for A.W/Farwell to A.W are probably my fav arcs of all time
