I doubt slayer would've allowed him to bitchify their album tbh. Bob rock had wayy to much influence on Metallica in the 90's and really shaped them forever, yeah their music got a little more complex musically but loses a lot of the thrashy choppy aggression. I doubt Metallica would've even considered Rick if Bob wasn't such an instrumental factor

He's pretty good with Rock albums that mesh well with his style, The Strokes, RHCP, SOAD and Slipknot, even Danzig.

But Metallica isn't supposed to be polished, even the Black Album still had it's "edges" even if it's mainstream Heavy Metal instead of Thrash
