Duolingo is pretty basic.Try the other stuff.Its called immersion method.Basically,consume that language 24/7.

For a test you need to study grammar and read lots of text,dude.To become an efficient speaker you need to listen and practice said language daily(Shadowing).

Nothing wrong with going to college late.Most college graduates end up working in another area anyway.Study something you are interested in learning first,money comes after you get good at it.
