BB is supposed to be the new Rocks. So him having an old Rocks pirate in his crew doesn't really work. If that was the case, he should have recruited kaido, wang xi, shiki etc too.

Meant both of them. Kaido and Big Mom. Figure if we're fully going down the parallel route Blackbeard ultimately needs a crew that is busted enough for Luffy and his crew to have to ally with the Marines to win. And tbh, his current crew kind of sucks outside a couple very heavy hitters.

Kaido and Big Mom go a long way towards fixing that and each slots pretty damn nicely for Zoro and Sanji to fight.

Also makes the Blackbeard pirates thoroughly defeating the Red Hairs quite a bit more conceivable.
