Luffy has tried to befriend a fucking Tree Monster on Thriller bark but apparently, because Zoro lacks an arc in which Luffy is forced to recruit him back into the crew, he isn't considered a friend by Luffy or vice versa.

Guess he should have been a bit more rebellious and just left the crew in between the time skip to get a friendship bracelet am I right?
