Luffy cares about Zoro. He also knows that Zoro is probably his most independent crew member and holds him to a higher regard.
First Luffy was concerned for Zoro after Mihawk almost cuts him in half.
In Skypeia he’s concerned for Zoro after Enel attacks him. Zoro getting defeated means the enemy is tough and Luffy needs to get serious.
Then in Thriller Bark, Luffy offers to share his lunch with Zoro. Since when does Luffy offer to actually share his food? Then when Zoro’s recovering at the end of TB, Luffy brings him alcohol because he knows that’s something Zoro would want when he’s awake.
In Wano their reunion was pure chaos and joy!
Finally in Egghead they were chilling on a couch together. Also let’s not forget that Luffy and Zoro drifted on sea in a tiny dinghy.
Also Luffy would let himself go through hell for his nakama. But Zoro is the only one who he would allow to suffer with him. Look at Jaya, Luffy could have told Zoro to leave with Nami, but instead he knew Zoro had enough fortitude to stand with him.
