Let me guess, by making the domain expansion super small, even the exterior that is normally weak to outside attacks, gets stronger because Gojo can disperse his energy in a more condensed way to the entire barrier.

So, even though Sukuna's Expansion will keep hitting it from the outside, it won't be enough to break it this time. And now Gojo can go crazy in there.

Okay but what does the lil ball domain shrinking do?

I think since limitless is a manipulation of space and the domain takes over the CT. Gojo increased his domain to cover malevolent shrine. Then shrunk it and the space inside as well. Meaning malevolent shrine is also shrunk and still inside his domaine. Therefore Sukuna cannot destroyed from the outside anymore and their CT’s cancel each other out. So basically now it really is a battle of strength inside that small domain.
Sukuna can not destroy infinite void from outside anymore and Gojo can not do it as malevolent shrine doesn’t have an outside barrier.
