Character Discussion Momonga

#3
I see quite a lot of people hyping Momonga but I don't remember anything impressive about him, any fans out there who can share canon hype reasons?
My pov is that he's portrayed as being collected in face of adversity (Boa petrifying his crew while Momonga stabbed himself in the hand to avoid it)

His sword seems to be his main weapon, so part of the hype is from sword bros ig as well.

Being one of the highlighted VA throughout the story makes him a fan favorite. He gets (or used to) decent panel time when Marines are the focus so fan expectations are that he knows how to handle himself.

Honestly, I'd rather he were an admiral candidate than SBS characters turned canon like Tokikake and the other person. Unnecessary bloat by Oda while not giving existing characters shine

I agree with the spirit

I would prefer Oda to develop existing character rather than creating out of thin air « admiral candidate ».

But to be fair all the vice admirals introduced till Marinfeord were really far too weak to be crediblle possible admirals. Oda would have needed to make them far stronger than before.

About Momonga hype : lot of panel times (even in movies, special episodes etc, cool design and personality, the Hancock moment : retrospectively you can see that some powerful guys can be turned into stone easily so Momonga resisting like that was a nice feat. Momonga was also promoted to be the chief and governor of the former Marineford, the second biggest Marine base in the world.

So out of the other VA the man stands out a little bit

VAs are Trash
People still think Smoker is a Weak VA or Average One lol

Soon they will realize that Smoker & Vergo were indeed Strongest VAs
Momonga, Onigumo, Doberman ... etc are Nobodies

Only ones that Oda can make stand out from VAs aside from Smoker are Momosagi/Chaton & John Giant

I think Bro its because Momonga is the Boss of the G1 Base (the main Base after Akainus) post Ts Momongas Strength in combination with his Rokushiki got hyped in the Databook as well. Chaton and Tokikake who both were "one" of the Admiral Candidats are below Momonga in Rank... which speaks volumes and says a lot about Momonga strength which was no Joke Pre Ts either...

Momonga on Paper looks like the current strongest Vice Admiral (Garp and Tsuru excluded)

I could get behind that personally cause he is one of the highlighted vice admirals, but logically dude is simply too weak to be that.

You can't have an admiral candidate being portrayed inferior to Boa, who herself is fodder to admirals.

The only thing of note is him being able to slightly resist the effects of Boa’s fruit he was clever enough to injure himself and composed enough to resist further but combat wise I don’t think we have anything impressive to go off of.
