I am really going to have to think about this one. I love both Yu Yu Hakusho and One Piece.

Yusuke Urameshi is my first anime crush. I am tempted to vote Yu Yu all the way. Plus thereโ€™s Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei. I also feel like Yusuke grows as a character while maintaining his identity. Whereas Luffy doesnโ€™t grow and just resets every arc. Yet I do frequently comment on a OP forum.

I can confidently say that OP has the more creative worlds and powers, but Yu Yu Hakusho has the better fights. The Dark Tournament is the best tournament arc in any Shonen. I will die on this hill. Plus Yu Yu Hakusho rocks the amazingly hilarious 90s drip. Seriously go check out the official anime art!

You know when I think of one piece being good I think of skypeia. After drum island and alabasta we went to the very top of the clouds and came down and saw an admiral. Things were going great until we went to the bottom of the sea. Before that I could say One Piece simply surpassed YYH, I'm bias cause I love pirates.

Then the timeskip happened...

For me to say one piece is better it has to have a hell of an ending because in retrospect yyh was a masterpieces that was good the entire time and motivated you. The min characters allways lived up to expectations. One Piece has several dozen if not 100 letdown. Its honestly part of the story. And while I think Luffy had the potential to be the best protagonist in history money changed his. He started out as this street gruff (kinda like urameshi) with a heart of gold. Only later to become an idiot.

He had his moments in eastblue and in alabasta(mostly with vivi) he had his moments in enis lobby(believing 8n his friends and staying with Rob Lucchi) though everything after the timeskip has destroyed my love for the character.
If I want to watch a protaganist I can believe in I'll watch YYH or CodeGeass.

Having finished YYH now, I am definitely picking it and Yusuke over OP and Luffy.

I havenโ€™t seen YuYu Hakusho, but Iโ€™ve always heard that it is far better than HxH so by virtue of that alone it slaps One Piece. Not many MCโ€™s are losing to Luffy, especially those who donโ€™t follow the dumb MC archetype which Yusuke doesnโ€™t follow from what I know so YuYu slaps One Piece there.

The last arc of YuYu alone prevents it from being better than HxH

The Three Kings Saga started off so strong too! I enjoyed Kurama and Hieiโ€™s backstory. Plus the dynamic between Raizen, Yomi, and Mukuro were interesting. Then Togashi dropped Kuwabara, and that was unforgivable to me.
It ended pretty awfully with the Dadbod guy becoming the king

Then togashi did 5 weird filler chapters where Yusuke goes to college and pranks some girl and some shit and Then ended the manga

yu yu hakusho ended horribly

-never resolved hiei's relationship with his sister

-kuwabara never ended up with yukina or at the very least never resolved their relationship

-raizen, yusuke's dad never got properly concluded. he just died randomly without so much as even joining the tournament

-shinobu's holy energy despite being used was never expanded on

The manga was strange. Togashi got tired and just wanted to stop the manga. I always thought it was strange that he decided to bring back the spirit detective bit again.

I also like how Togashi writes his villains. Both Toguro and Sensui connect with Yusuke subtly but brilliantly. Toguro is who Yusuke could become if he didnโ€™t listen to Genkai or his friends and Keiko. While Sensui is the former Spirit Detective but Yusukeโ€™s complete opposite. Both were great villains!

Sensui was still the goat :steef:
Yea

loved his character
he was taught that demons = evil just to find out that humans are just as bad if not worse, which pretty much broke him not only cause of how it shattered his world view but because of the vile torture they were subjecting these demons too

Speaking of shinobu
kinda liked how their fighting styles were handled where toguro was brute force, sensui forced on martial arts
