Character Discussion Law got ruined

#22
He’s fine, but he shouldn’t have had as big of a role as he did in the BM fight. It should have mostly been Kid vs BM.

Law already has his moment in dressrosa & PH and he has the will of D to keep him interesting.

Literally all Kid had was this build up of being a rival of Luffy’s. And Oda took that away from him by making him at best equal to Law in the BM fight(with much of the fandom thinking he’s much weaker).

BM also had absolutely nothing to do with Law. Whereas Kid had already caused trouble in her territory.
Oda's plan was to have Joker in Wano, but once he was defeated in Dressrosa, Law needed an opponent just like Kid.

I agree that Kid's defeat of BM was foreshadowed since Fishman Island, but it didn't make sense for him to solo a Yonko and for Law to sit in the sidelines.

A draft is a draft. It's not a final product and is just an idea. Oda at one point planned to have a version of Doflamingo in Wano. That's all. Take it from someone who writes for a living, the difference between a draft and a finished product is heaven and earth.

Law was an asspull fighter since day 1, his ability was always too broken. What even is a "room" lol, he can do whatever he wants defying all logic. The issue is when Oda nerfs him and then conveniently lets his abilities work.

Character wise I agree, whenever he's paired with Luffy and Kidd it's kinda cringe. But by himself he's goated.
Even Oda doesn’t know how Law’s powers work, Big Mom’s Haki was too strong for Law until suddenly it wasn’t.

I wish I could’ve seen the smoke coming out of Oda’s ears as he wrote up that SBS Awakening explanation, Oda truly came to embody this meme in 106

Kid should have gotten some 1v1. It was the first time Oda gave him a spotlight.

After Law did PW, we should have got one chapter of Kid vs BM 1v1.

Kidd got relevance little too late. Wano had too many characters and event then its obvious law was oda's fav. Just like Kaido shined much more than BM , law shined much more than kidd in terms of power.
That’s the issue.

Kid needed to be stronger than Law because his entire character is defined by his rivalry with Luffy.

By making him on par or weaker than Law, Oda effectively assassinated his character by going back on what he initially portrayed in sabaody.

Kid never needed to be equal or even comparable to Luffy. But he should have at least stood out amongst the supernova.

Overall, it’s clear Oda changed his plans. I believe he even admitted so in an SBS.

I don’t think that’s good writing. To set up characters like Kid and ultimately do nothing with them because Law is more popular with the fans.

Nah, he has always been cool, we have a background of him, how he trained, where did he get his medic notions, why he is hard to defeat as a "D".

His powers has always been cool, the only nerf is his imagination.

Has always had a goal, and he had a promise with Luffy with he achieved. Great character.

No
He wasn't assupulo fighter from day 1

Oda just started giving him any ability and whatever...then nerfs him...then give him more asspull

This is why Oda was forced to have Law in BM fight which doesn't make sense cause they had no prior build up pre Wano
Even during the raid, BM still was pussed and focused only at Kid and Luffy more than Law

Oda should have kept Law with Luffy
Have him and Yamato weaken Kaido more

While Killer, Marco and Apoo help Kid to beat BM

Law’s powers are vague from day uno. Man was switching personalities while displaying what is essentially Shiki’s moveset back in his PH reintroduction. His moveset just needs to have a medicine theme on it, that’s the only limitation. If it’s too broken then Oda nerfs him like he usually does otherwise Law would be godlike-level.

Character-wise, Law was always one of the best. Design, motivation, personality and even backstory are all topnotch. The only time people find Law cringey is when that forced rivalry interaction with Luffy and Kidd happens and I agree. Law’s too cool to do any of that childish shit and it doesn’t fit him.

Law was always destined to be relegated to his current fate from the second Oda made him his own captain instead of a Strawhat.

I mean, the fuck do people think One Piece is gonna do with him? He was never gonna be a Yonko, or a viable rival for the PK title. In all honesty, his fans should be happy he got away from Blackbeard with Bepo as easily as he did. From what we can tell, he didn't even get maimed or permanently nerfed!

Beign a Luffy cheerleader and supporting him sure as shit beats feeding the fish of Elbaf like Kid and his crew are currently doing.

Seriously, I am not trying to be mean, but what did people EXPECT would happen? Law would some fucking how beat Blackbeard?

So basically, what I got from this thread is Law's haters are Kidd's fans because Oda likes Law more.
The complete and utter humiliation Kidd suffered (and that everyone predicted except Kidd's fans) from his encounter with a Yonko that is not a clown, broke some people down and the coping is still as strong as when it happened and is now mixed with an ounce of bitterness
