To show that he was imprisoned? You can look at it and say that's negative hype for Koby, but chances are... Oda didn't think that deeply about it. I don't think he wrote it that way for people to say that Koby just is weak. Especially if the hints are accurate. But we'll just have to wait and see. As I said, Koby's story was obviously going in this direcet, but I think Oda should have showcased Koby in an earlier Saga to ease into this. We'll just have to wait and see how it's handled.
He was imprisoned in a cell lol. No reason to drag around the ball. And it's also slightly inconvenient for oda as well to draw it in too. Almost like he purposely left that in...

Smoker, the guy who is chasing Luffy from way back in Loque Town, get shitted on post TS, but snot nosed weak ass Koby awakens CoC.

This is beyond lame for real.

I really hope these hints or whatever are false.
Any hype Smoker had was sacrificed to make Law good. That had nothing to do with Koby. He's been on this trajectory arguably since before Smoker was even creaed. Your issues are with Law. Smoker gets his ass kicked by Law to hype him up. Law then talks down to him while he's locked up and calls Tashigi smarter than him, because she begged Law for their lives. Then Smoker gets his ass kicked by a holding back Vergo to make Law look good when he one shots full body haki Vergo with the mountain. None of that had anything to do with Koby. It was all about making Law look good at Smoker's expense.

Nothings confirmed yet. It's possible that he does nothing impressive in the coming chapter, but if he does... there's going to be a lot of coping and seething.
