I think religion can be helpful for some people. But also, a lot of really conservative sects of basically any religion have the habit of being pretty toxic.

for me, I feel like Judaism has been an overall benefit for my life. Helps me meet more people, gives my life some sort of structure, praying is fun, and overall it makes me a better person.

but also

A lot of people take it WAY too far. Like with Orthodox Judaism, it’s honestly kinda sexist.
  • women aren’t allowed to hold significant positions in the congregation(ex. They can’t be rabbis)
  • Women aren’t allowed to get a divorce unless their husband consents
  • Men and women need to be physically separated by a barrier inside the synagogue

and then there are people like this who just engage in outright terrorism and make the entire religion look bad

Tribe mentality isn't inherently bad.

There is a positive aspect to it where people within the tribe work to support other members and uplift each other. I've noticed that a lot within the jewish community and I wouldn't be surprised if that's where some of the community's success comes from.

But there is also a negative aspect of "fuck everyone outside my group" that is probably the source of racism, xenophobia, capitalism, and all other bad things in life.

yes it would be
it leads to lack of critical thought as a result of taking your info solely from your tribe and nothing else

you can be friends or allies with people without blindly following the tribe or going to agree with them over everything else

and during world war 2
it was the german tribalism

the focus on the german tribe and their needs or wants that ended up harming the jewish people

focusing on solely your own group and blindly following them has never had good results

my point was about how a tribe mentality can be useful when people within the tribe uplift each other but harmful when they discriminate against others for not being part of the tribe.

In America I’ve noticed that tribalism is too much of the latter and not enough of the former.

no dude, these settlers legitimately engage in terrorism.

They’re religious fundamentalists who want to revive the ancient Jewish kingdoms of Judaea and Samaria, aka the West Bank. They think they have sole rights to the land by decree of God.

However Arabs are a majority in these lands and hence the settlers wish to push them out and/or subjugate them.

And I think what the settlers’ want is honestly a bastardization of Zionism.

Zionism was never a religious fundamentalist movement like ISIS. It was created by secular Jews who saw the rise of antisemitism in Europe and wanted to create a place where Jews could be safe and have their own autonomy.
You dont even know the definition of terrorism i guess, destroying property and vendalism is not the same as terrorism, now compare that with palastians who say they are gonna kill all the people and take the land "from the river to the sea" , difference is they go and kill people on a weekly basis not burning cars

Use of violence for political goals or something along this line iirc

But it also means that you can care about something. Tribe is, emotionally, basically an extension of family. Without a tribe, why should you care abou what happens to people other than yourself?
