Luffy saved his crew mate, beat the big bad of the arc and then got a massive wank job by the entire world.

Not only that, but this was deeper into the story. Where the belief was that Luffy could at least hang with the Yonko now that he acquired FS. People act like this was a “known outcome” but at the time Luffy being 0 diff from wasn’t a common belief.
Ichigo did all that too though lmfao. He mastered bankai, beat two captains, saved Rukia, all his friends were in escaping.

Then the big bad shows up, undoes his work with Rukia, gets his goal and nearly kills Ichigo.

this is literally like Kuzan coming in after they save Robin in Enies Lobby to no diff Luffy with a finger and lobotomize Robin

Last arc we just had Luffy run away from a weaker yonko because he knew there was nothing he could do to her right now and then barely defeat her “lowly son.”

Luffy getting one shot by the worlds strongest creature was a decently common idea from what I remember.

But Ichigo wasn’t getting wanked by the entire soul society, and in his last fight Byakuya wasn’t saying “you will eventually beat Yamamoto.”

Ichigo was strong, but if you read any of his previous fights you’d know he struggle against the real big bad. Luffy is the same, difference is Oda tried really hard to paint Luffy as similar to a Yonko only to pull the rug on us

Her “lowly son” was a genuine threat at the time, and even hyped up Luffy by stating Luffy will eventually beat his mom.

One shot being “common” is not what I remember. Losing? Yeah Luffy almost never beats the big bad right away, but one shot was unexpected. Specially with FS

But we all knew Luffy wasn’t Yonko level? He had an extreme diff fight against Katakuri and we had Teach outright say he’s not there yet.

For Ichigo, he achieved his goal, he was at the end of the arc, and then was crushed like a bug. The narrative there is insane, compared to losing at the start of the arc against a foe we know Luffy wasn’t a match for. Nobodies surprised Luffy loses to Kaido in Act 1, Aizen’s betrayal and power was so shocking and overwhelming in comparison.

Aizen was already hinted as the real big bad by then. Did anybody seriously believed he was going to down right there?

again this is a similar situation, difference is Luffy had narrative hype whereas Ichigo didn’t

It’s the fact Aizen swooped in at Ichigo’s moment of triumph. His highest high and Aizen stole that from him.

Kaido humbled Luffy but he did not take away his accomplishments in WCI.
