Spoiler Boruto 81

Ikemoto has a Thigh/High-Heels fetish.

Kakashi should have just took the Hokage seat again like Hiruzen did when Minato died.

Does charm work on documents, photos, and videos? this premise barely makes sense.

I still hate Ikemoto's style. the clothes are whack, baggy, and full of belts.

:okay:<- everyone's always making this face tryina' look cool. It urks me more than it should.

It is pretty popular, yeah

It got a 300 episode anime and it's always among the top reads on Manga Plus

it does pretty well for a monthly manga

it also gives new characters and stuff for merchandise and new games / updates for the Storm Series

so it's 100% making them enough money to keep going

So…it’s been 1 chapter since the timeskip started and Sarada still needs to be the damsel doing the locked knees pose while Boruto comes and saves day? Yeah, this manga is dogshit and Kishimoto is still terrible at writing female characters…

code jobed again.

at least this manga serves for something.

it shows that a world without naruto is post-apocalyptic imo.

it's like when Goku ie in Trunks Futur.

But too bad I will never recognize Boruto as cannon because of the Naruto drama, for me boruto and Himawari are still children. At best boruto the GT version.

it's such a mess, what is naruto supossed to do after he return and see that Konoha is destroyed, his daughter lost her innocense, kawaki betrayed him, boruto lived hell and was hunt down same for sasuke, shikamaru gave in his dark side?

When the world needed him the most he was MIA.

The Timeskip has been weird for me., I will cover the bad first, then the "strange", and finally cover what I liked last all according to my particular and individual feelings and opinions.

The BAD:

(I have split my major story complaints into two categories and after that deal with more minor complaints)

Category 1: Repetitive or too slow: RECAP WAS TERRIBLE. Literally the last chapter or two explained everything that happened with the Eida's ability that was unleashed. Multiple panels were already used to explain it in-depth - both text and pictures in sync showing forth the point.

Yet the script writer has Sarada blabbing away literally repeating a bunch of things the readers already know, as if they thought that a bunch of brand new readers would check out Boruto just for the time skip. And actually, that is somewhat reasonable but the problem really is new readers jumping on Boruto just for the timeskip should never have been catered to. They neither need nor deserve a recap, it ruins the manga for the people who were reading the previous chapters. The recap is literally just annoying, and wastes time and panels. Mangas should not be written to explain things for people that did not bother to read or were too lazy to read what was literally explained one chapter prior. I think for me, this was literally the most annoying thing about the chapter.

Category 2: things Moving Too Fast: Boruto Reappearing in front of his people in the Village in the first chapter of the timeskip

To me this felt rushed. On one hand, if you are impatient you will be grateful. However as for the manga itself it ruins the sense of the value of the timeskip. It has been 3 years since the events in the last few chapters or something like that. And yet, the way the characters talk and act feels as if the transition from pre-timeskip to post-timeskip was seamless, but in a bad way. Like, as if the whole village of Konoha was not only deceived by Eida's ability, but also put into a mental-timeloop. The way most characters convey their feelings and thoughts about the current major events of the series sounds as if no time had passed at all between the previous chapter. Something feels very off or weird about it. For example, Eida questioning whether Sarada and the other are charmed, the way Shikamaru talks... it does not feel viable. It feels like some of the character IQs dropped, and not in a way that could simply be relatable to Eida's charm ability since it seems to include Eida herself. 3 years of having those two girls around, the implication is that she is suspicious - and only now, at the perfect timing - she is asking these questions?

Last complaint: Sarada's outfit is terrible. People need to stop giving the Japanese this free "culture" pass, its ridiculous. They need to avoid "Whataboutism" as well. For example, the fact that we have some or a lot of young ladies in the West dressing like this doesn't make it okay or good. It means, we are like Rome when you could clearly see their cultural deterioration just before their empire crumbled. As others have pointed out, Sarada is a 16 year old (or something like that) and she dresses like a street hooker. It is disgusting. It adds nothing to the story. Still more, it makes any romantic plot involving her character in general kind of feel a little gross. If Boruto was my son, I would not want him crushing on a girl looking like that, and for some very good reasons - if you get my drift.

The Strange:

MALE CHARACTER OUTFITS.

I want to expressly say, I don't hate the male character outfits or think they are bad per se. That is exactly why this is classified as "strange". But, let me say this. These outfits are very Yugioh-esque to me, especially with the excessive belts and beltstraps. It feels like a fashion statement. I don't hate it, but I find it weird in the context of the Naruto-Boruto-verse. It is not unforgivably out of place (how the fashion/clothing has changed moving from Naruto to Boruto) - because obviously, the ninja villages changed. Science, advancement, whatever. But yet - it still looks weird, and feels somewhat out of place. But again, it is not intolerable.

Timeskip Hiwamari :

Honestly, the Naruto-clan whiskers seem weirder on her now that she is older. From certain angles of drawing she looks like a male character. They might have to rethink the design a bit.

The Good:

Boruto himself seems sharper and cooler.
I did get the feel that Boruto had some new characterization elements. This did not feel like the Boruto from the previous chapters and years to me. He feels different. Not horribly totally broken different, just a bit more mature, and as I would say, sharper - less childish. His entrance was pretty cool.

The reason some will be mindlessly head-over-heels about the time skip is because its literally just exploiting a classical formula that appeals to emotions. The sort of idea that some individuals imagine themselves in the characters shoes, and find the experience exciting. The idea of reappearing in front of the eyes of a potential romantic partner after years of absence being much stronger, more capable and cooler looking - things like that.

As I said, it is a a timeskip formula. There are certain things that if you employ in your story, it is guarenteed to attract some amount of people with a 100% guarentee. However, that alone does not mean a timeskip is always good, and certainly does not mean the Boruto timeskip was executed well. It simply means the formula is that powerful in its ability to attract the reader, however those that have broken out of being easily emotionally moved will see the flaws.

Also, one last thing : Let me be clear that I don't hate Boruto at all, and I did rather enjoy this chapter over all even though it may not sound like it. It was enjoyable for me overall, and yet I am not so foolish as to think that it was a good execution. The timeskip could have been written a lot better.

I have mixed feelings. Sarada’s design/fashion is just a big no. Sumire’s is fine. Himawari going all exposed skin like Sarada, nooooo! Himawari kicking rear, yes! Boruto stomping on Code’s face as an entrance, yes! Pacing seems like this is the final arc with no sidestories?

Questions: why isn’t Sarada using her Sharingan against the 10 tails zetsus? As Himawari is from a strong Otsusuki bloodline, would that be why she is shrugging off the effects of Eida’s shinjutsu? What about the other Hyugas? Nue, an absorber of chakra, should be an excellent counter to the 10 tails zetsus, I would think?
