I usually solve Midnight through mechanics and his willingness to use his role to help, he fluffs in both alignments.

Scum presumably already knows whether the game is heavy on the vanilla or not. Their fake claims have vanilla = heavy on the vanilla. They don't = maybe one or two vanilla out there. So the information suits town more than scum
