Character Discussion What is the most embarassingly out-of-character moment of strawhats?

I forget to do my list.

Zoro
  • Promising to recruit samurais at Wano. Don't remember him doing anything like that before and he didn't kept his promise.
  • Giving Shusui to bitch Hiyori. He earned the fucking sword. Doesn't matter what that bitch says about it. You earned the sword from Ryuuma itself. She didn't a shit to get the sword back to Wano.
Sanji
  • Letting Usopp to protect Nami from Ulti and Page One knowing how strong Page One is since he needed Raid Suit to fight him and still was overpowered by his hybrid form.
  • Bitching about feeling strange, losing emotions, becoming a monster. This is totally against what he actually behave against opponents. Specially after his family was so nice with him at the end of WCI. Makes no fucking sense.
  • Beating Luffy at WCI without any reason and without any result.
Luffy
  • Also allowing Usopp and Nami to fight Ulti and Page One for themselves.
  • Walking calmly between 2 Yonkos to take care of Kin'emon and cia instead of start fighting them. This was a first for Luffy.
  • Saying to Yamato that he wants to take Kaido by himself. First for Luffy. He didn't bothered the team fight before. Didn't bothered teaming up with Law against Doflamingo. Or with Nami against Cracker.
  • Saying that he was always free after Queen left Udon. He was literally a prisioner.
  • Saying he won against Katakuri when he obviously didn't.

Honestly, Kidd giving up on Kaido was way worse.

Not only did he swore vengeance on him for what he did to him and his crew, but he personally came to the Onigashima raid for his head.

and then suddenly, mid battle, he changes his mind and focuses on Big Mom instead… almost like he forgave Kaido for all the things he did.

:kriwhat:
Man, that was completely brutal from LOda. Kid (and Killer) had the most reason to fight Kaido out of all the Supernova, and he just...........settled for Big Mom who had nothing to do with him at all lmao.
I remember how annoyed I was about this back in the days the raid was going on.

At least Law got to do something to Doflamingo who was his personal. Would it kill Oda to have Kid at least contribute in similar way to Kaido's defeat, even if Luffy gets to be the main fighter and hero.

Interested to see what @JoNdule @Monkey D Theories think about this.

For Loda, nobody else in the story matters post TS (especially since Wano) than Luffy- their motivation, story, drive etc all become irrelevant in front of the chosen destiny man.

Zoro
-Nothing off the top of my head, he's consistent.
You're joking, right?

Punk hazzard is the holy grail of inconsistency and Zoro is the king of it.

Remember him scolding Luffy about not taking the things seriously? Well, what does Zoro do 2 chapters later? Hold back on fighting Monet for no reason, then sit around while the crew needs help and then Monet almost nuked the whole island if not for Caeser killing her accidently.

Not to mention Zoro asspulling the "no hitting women" bullshit out of nowhere, even though his story with Kuina contradicts this AND he still broke this asspulled rule by cutting Monet's cheek next chapter lmao

Sanji
-All of WCI. The biggest dick on the SHs is now the nicest guy in the world
Baratie, Sanji's arc, literally started with the kindness thing

and it continued whole story:

I was actually gonna include that shitty PH moment, but I realized that's not out of character but simply shitty writing. Like is it out of character for Zoro to tell Luffy to take things seriously? Not really.

Also the not hitting thing again isn't out of character, remember when Robin got hit by Enel he said "she's a women" Zoro is a traditionalist. He doesn't really believe women should be harmed/belong on the battlefield. It is extremely odd given his relationship with Tashigi though I agree, not out of character for Adult Zoro though.

luffy not knowing that he has a zoan type devil fruit and not a paramecia even tho he's been using it for 12 years

Not out of character? He's literally contradicting on the thing he scollded Luffy 2 chapters prior.
He decided to sit around while his crew needed his help with children and the gas filling up the place all while running out of time.

He was mad for Luffy for not knowing Caeser's power taking oxygen away
yet he's fine with sitting around.

How is that not a dogshit of a character?
Also the not hitting thing again isn't out of character, remember when Robin got hit by Enel he said "she's a women" Zoro is a traditionalist
Again, that's just more proof that he's inconsistent with his values. He was hurting mrs. Monday no problem without a 2nd thought

He refused to hurt Monet, yet immediately next chapter he cuts her cheek.
Zoro is a traditionalist He doesn't really believe women should be harmed/belong on the battlefield
Nibba.... what

There is also the Miss Monday situation back at Whisky Peak where he had no problem crushing her skull until she went unconscious.

But yeah his reaction to Robin on top of what he was pulling against Monet makes him feel pretty inconsistent to me. Especially since his backstory with Kuina was kinda setting him up as someone who wouldn't buy into the idea of women needing special treatment in battle as long as they were willingly standing up for a fight.

The thread doesn't ask about bad character moments, but out of character moments. You're right about this one though, it does seem out of character. Sitting around when they are in a dire situation, you can add this one in.

That one is cause Zoro is racist, to an extent atleast.

Nibba.... what
As he grew older he became more and more of a traditionalist. Again you're referencing a kid Zoro, adult Zoro has always had the mindset that women belong in the kitchen. Something along those lines atleast.

Where's that character growth shown in the manga? You cannot headcanon offscreen growth that doesn't show why character decided to think the other way.

1. Because it was established 1st that kid Zoro doesn't think that way about women.
2. Him out of nowhere being a sexist for no reason quite literally shits on the promise with Kuina, his flashback and the reason for WSS

Either way you look, Zoro is dogshit character. Surprising how inconsistent he is with how little characterization he gets.

I don't know if it's out of character for Zoro to be against hitting women but I do think it doesn't make any sense

Kuina was a woman that he respected more than anyone and saw as a true rival

Why would he be against hitting women? It just doesn't add up to me

Stop ruining my boi name.
It's not necessarily a bad thing. Zoro acts like a samurai so he has those traditional bushido values, where women are those that need to be treated with more care. He's never excessively violent with women, I wouldn't consider that an inconsistency.

True that it's not really shown, rather Zoro fits an archetype of a warrior that would treat women in such way, so that's how Oda makes him act.

Because he's still a man at the end of the day. For men of honour and dignity, it doesn't sit right to be violent with Women. And Zoro is portrayed as one of those honourable warriors.

so that inherently contradicts his established character in a flashback

meaning that zoro has been out of character and poorly written since East Blue

Maybe, but that's not the purpose of this thread.
....???

If it contradicts his established character in a flashback and all he's been doing is contradicting that character meaning that he's out of character almost 24/7.... yeah, it kinda is the purpose of a thread.

That makes no sense, Zoro as we know him throughout the story as an adult, has consistently treated women with more care than men. Period.

His change from a flashback and adulthood could be touched up on, but the consistency with his actions throughout the current timeline of the series is there.
