Powers & Abilities The actual reason why Luffy has a Mythical God fruit and why the Nika asspull occured

#22
It's funny how people don't realize that Luffy has been doing exactly what Nika symbolizes since the very first arc of the manga. Liberating those who are oppressed, and bringing joy to those he encounters.

People want to call it an ass pull, because they are so obsessed with the fighting aspect of the twist, that they fail to see the Symbolism of what being Nika means to the overall narrative of the story.

They need to take off their battle goggles and read the actual story.
This particular excuse doesn’t work because no one who saw Luffy liberating people and saving the oppressed thought that somehow meant that his fruit was different from what it actually was.

Neither has a bearing on the other whatsoever. Luffy’s actions still work the same way even if it were just the rubber fruit. If anything, transposing his actions as a property of the fruit is just terrible because of how completely unnecessary it is.

Changing the df after over 1000 chapters into a god fruit that can bend reality is pretty much an asspull.

Shit like asura was also an asspull, just not nearly as bad as g5
Except it doesn't bend reality more than other fruits since Luffy only uses to gum-gum aspects of it. So far it's only used as an awakened gomu fruit.

All other DF modify the surroundings when awakened.

he legit created sunglasses out of nothing lmao. yeah thats reality bending
Those sunglasses add +0 attack damage.

He didn't use his DF more than what he thought so far was possible of the gum gum fruit. He has yet to realize its true potential.

If you would read the entire part you would have understood. But you just conveniently cut out a part which is dishonest and misleading.

Is because Kaido was just too strong be logically beaten by Luffy otherwise

Oda probably couldn't find a way to use Luffy's rubber fruit in such a way that it would give him an advantage over Kaido since it was beyond his limits as a writer. Even a "normal Gear 5" - an awakening of the normal rubber fruit and changing the environment into rubber - wouldn't have been enough to bring down Kaido in a way that isn't bullshit. Oda had to give Luffy a literal God fruit that's only limit is the imagination of the user and Toon Force powers to bring down an exhausted Kaido in an extreme diff fight. Oda wanted to make Kaido strong due to the hype and to meet the expectations of the readers but he couldn't do it correctly in a narratively logical way and he made him too strong that it eventually led to the Nika's asspull

Oda basically cornered himself the same way Kishimoto did with Madara and Kaguya and he had to relay on a convenient asspull to save the MC's ass and move the story forward
Luffy is set to surpass Roger.
He could rely only on Haki but the gears are pivotal to his character.
Oda introduced awakenings, so it was logical to combine with the Gear 5 AND the Joy Boy/Nika myth, because thats the only way to overcome the powers that be

Read 4 threads and in all 4 the only argument you provide is ''muuuuh Zorofan...muuuh hater....''
Instead of hating on fans, try debunking what the thread is about and give arguments, it will give you more credibility and would shut up the op.
He is retard
don't talk to him
only thing he knows is to abuse

The Sun God has been hinted multiple times in the manga and so I think it has been planned all along for Luffy to be Nika.

Oda just didn't make it obvious enough.

About Kaido though, I agree that Kaido was too strong for the rubber abilities to be enough. This was evident on the fight itself as Luffy couldn't defeat Kaido with G4 + AdvCOC. Well, Kaido has an assist with Mr.Go but if Kaido was able to fight G5 to an extent, I think eventually G4 would've lost regardless.

The way Oda made G5 awakening is what's bad, you literally can't make any conclusions other than the user had to die for the fruit to be awaken which is just truly disappointing.

Couldn't Oda have in a way teased G5 awakening during Luffy's and Kaido's first confrontation when Luffy got knocked out? Like Kaido sensing Luffy's COC but also senses something quite different?

It doesn't have to be said. It's called misdirection, and it's a valid writing technique. You make the reader believe one thing, when in reality it something completely different.

Oda has slowly been eluding to the fact that the Gomu Gomu no Mi isn't what is appears to be since the Doflamingo fight.

You gonna argue that all forms of misdirection in all of fiction is an asspull? Good luck on that.
You're calling it misdirection as cope mechanism

For 1040 chapters nobody ever said he wasnt rubber or was more than rubber man, that's not misdirection anymore, that's just retcon asspull.

Gomu gomu being special doesn't mean it had to be mythical coz there was nothing making this fruit be zoan/mythical.

Oda already explained why he went that road with Luffy. It was just so he could have more fun while drawing Luffy's fights, he doesn't like drawing fights, this way is funnier for him.
In order to do that he had to make the fruit special somehow.
Was it a good idea? Not for me but it is what it is. I can still enjoy Luffy's character, just not his fights (although maybe Oda will handle his fights better in G5 in the future, right now he doesn't really know what to do with it).

Oda wrote himself into a corner the moment he introduced Kaido as a villain.

The amount of @$$ pulls + plot contrivances that nerfed Kaido is astronomical, off the top of my head I can't think of another arc villain in Shonen that was nerfed as heavily as Kaido.
  • Fighting 8 of the 9 Red Scabbards
  • Deciding to lift onigamshima
  • While the island is lifted fighting the Supernova, knocks out Luffy
  • Knocks out Luffy again kicked off the island
  • Luffy comes back and gets murdered
  • Luffy returns AGAIN this time awakened
  • Kaido decides to take an island-tier attack after so many bouts which manages to knock him into a volcano ... (The assumption is that Kaido is knocked out)

Ehh i dont think it kills future tension, because every future opponent, sans Kizaru maybe(?), poses a direct threat to Luffy in some way:

- Akainu: can literally melt your insides
- Shanks: Is a swordsman with FS nullifying haki allegedly and the largest display of Conquerors in the series.
- Blackbeard: 1 of his powers can entirely nullify Luffy's fruit. The other has some of the biggest destructive implications on a person or environment. And who knows if theres a 3rd.

Who knows what Imu can do, but considering they (or one of the Gorosei), hurt Sabo (a logia) with ease, then I would guess they are also just as dangerous somehow (i entirely think they have a water logia, i.e. full Kairoseki nullification and since they ate Sabo's fire)
For all intents and purposes, at least the way I see it, Kaido is still top 5, if not top 3 in the verse, And I appreciate Oda making clear it took 15 people to take him down, just find it anticlimactic the way he went down, that's all.

I don't agree, people predicted it long long ago, about that African tribe that makes everyone dance, like literally 10 Years.

STILL, despite not being so much of an asspull, otherwise people wouldn't have been able to predict it.

for ME, it completely killed any tensions going forward, literally the worst decision of oda
