Don´t ask me, the mangaka make this route and in my opinion I argee with you, but in Oda way it seems like Marco and Whitebeard didn´t know that Oden was killed judging by Marco words in this chapter, even though it is really a nonsense that Whitebeard didn´t know that Kaido lead over wano and not Oden, at this point he should know that Oden was most like dead.
