WB had two titles of the strongest in marineford and yet with those titles and the Gura Gura he barely managed to bruise Akainu with a cheap shot and Marco. Instead the wsm , wsp with the power of the Gura Gura received lethal wounds from Akainu and Akainu after the WB attacks continued in the war fighting against almost all the WB commanders and defeating a Warlord and almost killing Luffy who had to be saved by external help. And that Akainu was not going all out.

That means Akainu was worried he couldn't win unless Whitebeard was already nearly dead.

I agree with the topic, just go see what Sengoku thinks of 1 Yonkou vs all the navy forces + Shichibukai + government Pacifists.
Can you imagine a Yonkou WB prime? Bro, the guy destroyed the navy headquarters, saved Ace temporarily, beat Akainu, and all this while he was weakened, sick and extremely nerfed, Yonkou WB at his Peak beats the navy headquarters easily, and defeats all 3 admirals.

What people don't realize about that is he may not have meant he intended to directly fight Big Mom and Kaido, but instead he may have attempted to intercept them the same way Shanks intercepted Kaido before he went to Marine HQ.

The truth is that the Marine headquarters depends on the government system (on the strength that the government lends) to survive from the Yonkous...
If you take the seraphim and government troops out of the navy, the Yonkous unilaterally destroy and defeat the navy, and there is not even an argument, which is why Akainu is so afraid of leaving his bosses.

He acts like a boss character with extra high HP and too many powerful attacks. It's super hard to fight him.
You can fight the admirals too but they're much much weaker in comparison. Though, they're definitely stronger than most of the other characters.
Put 3 admirals in a game against Whitebeard... and then watch what happens. He will destroy all 3 of them.
