Kaido decided to adopt Yamato, through some sort of respect he developed for Oden.

That would make Yamato about 21.

He should be able to pull off something similar tbh. That's why people are always disappointed when he defeats the main villain who was 100 times stronger than characters he struggled against.

That's part of Oda inconsistencies about power level. He can't restrain his hype tendencies.
