Nika was a Bucaneer, and his grave crime was likely stopping Imu from achieving absolute power. While Imu still won, Joyboy along with the poneglyphs authors were able to pave a runway for someone far in the future like Joyboy to be able to free everyone.

It's why Imu has to extinguish any new "light", because he knows Nika left him vulnerable.
