Interesting story:
A lot of them made it to and were welcomed into the Ottoman Empire of that time. And a contingent of them ended up in Bosnia, mostly in Sarajevo.
During the most recent war in the 90s, an important Jewish book, called the Haggadah, was protected by Bosnian citizens and saved from certain destruction. It's now honorarily refered to as the Sarajevo Hagada.
And because it's so fragile, it's only brought out for viewing 4 times a year.
